A 24 hour race is usually a big event in itself. In our case, it is being billed as a “warm-up” race. If nothing else, this serves as a stark reminder that we are in for a rather significant challenge in July, when we will essentially attempt 3-4 consecutive 24 hour races.
Beginning Sunday at 8am, Team CMU will go head to head against Arvid for 24 hours. Let’s call it Warm Pursuit. The pace may not be as hot as it will be in July, but it’s definitely getting closer. This gives us an opportunity for a trial run of sorts. The support crew will be out. The gps tracking will be turned on and tested. There will be photos, videos, and stories posted on the website. And there will be riding. Lots and lots of riding. By Monday morning, we will have a much better sense of exactly what we’ve gotten ourselves into. So its possible there will be a few tears shed as well.
The first 14 hours will take place in Birds Hill Park, with the headquarters at the road side parking strip on the North Drive opposite the road that leads to the horse stables. There is a picnic area there too. So feel free to come out and join in the fun. It will be fun, right? Or bring your bikes and ride along if you like. Surely it will have stopped raining by then.
We will leave the park before dark and do night laps on Henderson Highway between Dr. Hamilton School and Lockport. The finish is 8am Monday at Hyland park on Henderson Hwy, 1 km south of Hodinott Rd. The media will be invited to join us at the finish line. It would be nice to have a crowd of Team CMU supporters out as well.
See the main Hot Pursuit website for more details.
Keep riding.
