Here is three-quarters of Team CMU moments after Arvid headed off.
A team of five cyclists, made up of faculty members Chris Huebner and John Brubacher, along with Kevin Kilbrei, and alumni Craig Penner and Jon Guenter will race from Vancouver to Winnipeg in pursuit of ultra-marathon cyclist Arvid Loewen to raise money for international student financial assistance and international practica.
Hot Pursuit 2010 begins on July 17, 2010 and sees CMU’s team of five try to overtake Arvid Loewen, who is racing for the Mully Children’s Foundation. Team CMU will race around the clock, attempting to cover 2400 kilometers in three and a half days.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge,” says participant Chris Huebner. “Arvid has incredible endurance and can cycle 20 hours a day. We are not in his league, but we will be working as a team, cycling day and night, trying to catch him.”
“Financial awards are an important resource for international students who wish to study at CMU,” says CMU Director of Enrolment Abe Bergen. “Currently, we have 22 international students at CMU, many of whom are from developing countries. Many of these students wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for our financial awards program. Monies raised through Hot Pursuit 2010 will strengthen support for international education.”
